Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
PDHPE units studied
- Year 7 - Managing Change, Aquatics, Athletics, Life to the Max, Risky Business, Dance and a range of practical units
- Year 8 - Cultural Infusion, Fitness, Athletics, Drug Education, Relationships and a range of practical units
- Year 9 - Movement Composition, Fit for Life, Athletics, Sex Education, Drug Education and a range of practical units
- Year 10 - Road Safety, Athletics, Resiliency, Portfolios and a range of practical units
Elective units studied as well as practical
- Stage 5 PASS - Australia's Sporting Identity, Enhancing Performance, Body Systems, First Aid, Technology and Sport, Coaching, Fitness, Nutrition, Opportunities and Pathways in Sport and a range of practical units
- Stage 5 Child Studies - Preparing for Parenthood, First Aid, Nutrition, Health needs of Children, Media and Technology and Aboriginal Cultures and Childhood
- Stage 6 SLR - Fitness, Sports Coaching, Sports Admin and a range of practial units
- Stage 6 PDHPE - Better Health for Individuals, Body in Motion, First Aid, Fitness Choices, Health priorities in Australia, Factors Effecting Performance, Improving Performance, Sports Medicine and Improving Performance.
- VET Sports Coaching - First Aid, Coaching, Work, Health & Safety, Sport Recreation Industry Knowledge and Officiating.
- Sports Coaching - VET - Certificate III
- Assistant Dance Teaching - VET - Certificate II
