Our extra-curricular highlights
Intergeneration Tech Support Program
This program brings together tech-savvy high school students with older Australians in a mentoring capacity to share digital skills and knowledge.
Our students attend the Tweed Shire Council Community Services Room, located next to our school, where they assist senior Australians with their digital devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and laptops.
Supporting older Australians to improve their digital skills can help them enjoy the many benefits of using technology, including connecting with family and friends and easily accessing a wide range of services.
Balunjahli
At Tweed River High School, Balunjahli is embraced as a vital part of the school community, celebrating and integrating Aboriginal culture, heritage, and values into everyday learning and school life. The school actively promotes cultural awareness and respect through dedicated programs, events, and partnerships with local Indigenous groups, as well as through collaboration with feeder primary schools. This collaboration ensures a smooth and culturally responsive transition for students, fostering a shared understanding and appreciation of Balunjahli from an early age. By working closely with primary schools, Tweed River High School strengthens connections within the community and supports the empowerment of Aboriginal students, enriching the educational experience for all and creating a strong sense of belonging and connection to Country.
Creative and performing arts
Tweed River High School boasts an extensive and vibrant CAPA (Creative and Performing Arts) program that offers students a rich array of opportunities to develop their artistic talents. The school proudly participates in events such as Music on the Grass, where students showcase their musical skills in a relaxed outdoor setting, and the highly anticipated School Spectacular, a major annual production that highlights the combined talents of the school community. Students also compete in the North Coast Dance Competition, engaging in dynamic performances that celebrate movement and creativity. The music and vocal ensembles participate in the esteemed Eisteddfod Festival, fostering high-level performance and collaboration. Transition music activities are thoughtfully designed to support students as they move from one stage of learning to the next, ensuring continuous artistic growth. Beyond music and dance, the CAPA program includes strong Visual Arts and Drama components, allowing students to explore and express themselves through multiple creative disciplines in a supportive and inspiring environment.
Trips and excursions
Tweed River High School is deeply committed to enriching all aspects of everyday life for its students. The school ensures that every year group has the opportunity to engage in a variety of enriching experiences beyond the classroom. These include annual excursions to diverse and exciting destinations such as Sydney, Coffs Harbour, Moreton Island, and the snowfields for ski trips. Through these trips, students gain valuable learning experiences, develop social skills, and create lasting memories, all of which contribute to their growth and well-being. Additionally, these experiences inspire students and enhance their ability to set future goals by broadening their horizons and motivating them to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
